Any link between the London attacks of this election campaign, which saw Britain’s voters deprive Theresa May of her majority, and the Madrid bombings of 2004, which were followed by Spain’s voters turning out Jose Maria Aznar altogether, may be so tangential as to scarcely exist.
None the less, it may be worth pointing out that in neither case was mass murder by terrorists followed by a strengthening of a government’s position: there was no electoral Security Bonus. We draw no conclusion from this, but put it before our readers for any thoughts that they may have.
