We should add – in an effort to keep everyone as calm as possible – that we don’t believe the Prime Minister will resign in the immediate future (unless the move is agreed with Philip May).
There is no means of challenging her in a confidence ballot until late next autumn. Cabinet members have their own ambitions and divisions, and these don’t suggest a push to oust her.
There is wild talk this evening of Tory MPs not supporting the Government in a confidence motion, but we’ll believe that when it happens.
