As reported yesterday, Broxtowe Conservative Association met last night to select its Parliamentary candidate in the hope of retaking the seat following Anna Soubry’s defection.
The winner of the selection contest is Cllr Darren Henry. Henry is a former Squadron Leader in the RAF, and spent 26 years in the armed forces. Latterly he has served as a Wiltshire councillor, and as Conservative Party Area Chairman for Wiltshire. He contested Wolverhampton North East in the 2015 General Election, and in his spare time he is a rugby referee.
The new candidate appears to have hit the ground running, having kicked off what he is calling ‘The Battle of Broxtowe‘ with a meeting for Tory activists this morning.
Congratulations to Darren, and commiserations to the three strong challengers who he defeated – Saqib Bhatti, Cllr Richard Jackson and Samantha George.
