On her seventh day as Prime Minister, Liz Truss joined her fellow MPs – and two predecessors – in listening to the new monarch address Parliament for the first time since ascending to the throne. The new monarch said he felt the “weight of history” and pledged to emulate his mother’s example of “selfless duty”.
Number 10 was boosted by a Daily Mail poll that suggested nine in ten adults backed her energy price cap, and figures that suggested the UK economy had grown 0.2 per cent in July, following a sharp 0.6 per cent fall in June. Preparations for the Prime Minister’s and Chancellor’s “fiscal event” continued.
