As research by the Taxpayers’ Alliance and Policy Exchange has shown, Conservatives are still heavily under-represented when it comes to appointments to public bodies.
ConservativeHome has regularly highlighted some of the appointments to these bodies, and encouraged subscribers to apply, and we will continue to do so.
As well as checking out the appointments that we highlight, we would also encourage all those subscribers with an interest in offering their expertise to public bodies to sign up to the free Cabinet Office email alert service.
Here is the link for the service; setting up an account takes just a couple of minutes.

“The SGSA (formerly the Football Licensing Authority) is the UK Government’s regulatory Board for Premier League, Football League and Wembley Stadium as well having oversight of relevant local authorities. It is the government’s expert body on spectator safety at sports grounds. Set up after the Hillsborough disaster of 1989, its purpose is to ensure sports grounds are safe for everyone. Every weekend it helps millions of people enjoy watching football and other sports in a safe and secure environment. To achieve this, it works with the 92 football clubs in the Premier League and the Football League, Wembley Stadium and Principality Stadium, as well as local authorities, the Premier League, the Football League and the Football Association to ensure spectator safety is prioritised. It writes guidance, including the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (“the Green Guide”) now in its 6th edition, and carries out a range of statutory functions in relation to football in England and Wales and advisory functions in relation to other sports both within the UK and internationally.”

“National Museums Liverpool (NML) is the only national museum service in England based wholly outside London. We manage internationally recognised museums and art galleries, including World Museum, Walker Art Gallery and Museum of Liverpool, which between them attracted more than three million visitors a year before Covid and we plan to get back there or beyond in the next three years. The range of the collections is immense, including archaeology, fine and decorative art, science, slavery natural history and social history. Reflecting this, approximately 50% of NML’s visitors come from outside Merseyside. “
