The new Conservative administration presiding at Devon County Council is planning an economy drive on overseas travel. This follows the revelation that under the previous Lib Dem administration spent £45,231 on jet setting between 2005/06 and 2008/09 mostly to Europe. I suppose the Lib Dems might feel it proves their Europhile credentials but it does show disregard for the Council's carbon footprint – quite apart from the wallets of the county's Council Taxpayers.
The Council leader Cllr John Hart says a review is taking place on the Council's involvement with European and other international bodies. So perhaps there will also be some savings on membership subs.
