Before Daniel Korski withdrew from the contest to be the Conservative candidate for Mayor of London, some reports had described him as the “front runner”. Susan Hall’s team had disputed that on the basis that she had more endorsements. This is a difficult exercise to measure as there can be no objective measure of the weighting. Each Conservative member in London has one vote – so in that sense, we are all equal. But how would you measure the significance of an endorsement from a council leader or an ordinary councillor? A peer or a member of the London Assembly? A cabinet minister or a junior minister? A London MP or an MP from outside London?
Perhaps it is all otiose. Even before Korski withdrew, a couple of his Ministerial backers – Claire Coutinho and Robert Halfon – had “paused” their support.

We don’t know where Korski backers will go. Most Conservative councillors in London have yet to sign up as backers to any candidate. Doubtless more declarations are to come. But of the two candidates still in the race, Hall has a substantial lead over Hossain.
