Congratulations to Cllr David Mackintosh who has been chosen as the Conservative candidate for Northampton South. He was victorious in an Open Primary from a shortlist of four.
Cllr Mackintosh was born and brought up in Northampton and has been Leader of Northampton Borough Council since 2011, as well as being a Northamptonshire County Councillor. As a local councillor he has championed greater transparency – a subject he has written about for this site.
He is the Chairman of the KidsAid Foundation, a charity which helps children and young people who have suffered traumatic events. It offers early intervention to help those who have endured bereavement, domestic violence, abuse or bullying.
Cllr Mackintosh has also helped a number of other charities. You can see him in the video clip above dancing to help raise funds for Macmillan, while he has also slept rough for a night to raise money for the YMCA. He has been on a number of visits to political parties around the world on behalf of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy – including one to the People’s Party of Montenegro.
The sitting Conservative MP Brian Binley has a majority of 6,004. Cllr Mackintosh has the makings of a versatile and energetic successor.
