As research by the Taxpayers’ Alliance and Policy Exchange has shown, Conservatives are still heavily under-represented when it comes to appointments to public bodies.
ConservativeHome has regularly highlighted some of the appointments to these bodies, and encouraged subscribers to apply, and we will continue to do so.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the Committee’s business and will be expected to attend each meeting of the Committee, usually at least four per annum.“
Time: 3- 3.5 days per week
Remuneration: £170,000 – £180,000 per annum. Remuneration and expenses are taxable.

We also support our world-leading food, farming and fishing industries. The role of a NEBM is an exciting opportunity to be part of this. The NEBMs are members of the departmental Board on appointment. Departmental boards are advisory bodies that support and challenge ministers and Accounting Officers. Policy will be decided by ministers alone, on the advice of officials.“
Time: A minimum of 20 days per annum, including attendance of 4 Board meetings per year.
Remuneration: Non-executive board members of central government ministerial departments will be renumerated at a rate of £15,000 per annum. Fees and expenses will be paid by Defra and are subject to deduction of income tax and earnings-related National Insurance (ERNIC) at source under the PAYE scheme.

Remuneration: The Solent LEP Chair may be enumerated up to £12,000 per annum. The LEP will also consider candidates that wish to undertake the role of a voluntary, rather than a remunerated, basis. The Solent LEP will consider all candidates on an equal basis. The Chair can claim reasonable expenses in line with the Solent LEP expenses policy for Directors.

– – – – – – – – –“The aims, and responsibilities of the Advisory Committee on Releases to the Environment are to: advise the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Scottish and Welsh Ministers, and other bodies as appropriate, on the exercise of powers under Part VI of the Environmental Protection Act 1990…We are looking to recruit 4 members to ACRE. Candidates must demonstrate the general essential criteria outlined…and one of the specific areas of expertise. Your expertise will be applied to the formulation of ACRE advice, particularly on the potential risks to human health and the environmental risks posed by the use of GM products in trials or in commercial use, and non-native species used as bio-control agents.”
Time: ACRE meets up to 5 times each year; each meeting requires one day, and there will be preparation for each meeting..Appointments to ACRE are made for 3 years. You may be eligible for a second term. Appointment beyond a second term is considered exceptional.
Remuneration: You may claim £173 for every full day spent on ACRE business. You are also entitled to claim reasonable travel expenses.

– – – – – – – – –“ The Chair will be expected to do the following (amongst other things): oversee reforms to the LEASE service, including contributing to service improvement and working with the Department on what this means for LEASE; oversee the creation and delivery of robust and regular insights to DLUHC and the Welsh government on the issues that leaseholders and park homeowners are facing to support Government action where needed; provide clear strategic direction for the organisation and Executive/Non-Executive teams, using engagement with the Minister and DLUHC/Welsh Government officials to fully understand priorities and what these mean for LEASE.”
Time: 4 days per month
Remuneration: £654 per day.
