Last week, ConservativeHome exclusively revealed that CCHQ will be bringing back ‘proper’ party membership cards. This will be in place of the ‘keepsake certificate of membership’ introduced in 2020 by Amanda Milling, in the interests of reducing the party’s environmental impact.
These have long irritated some party members who have found the certificates easier to mislay than wallet-bound cards. Jake Berry, then chairmen, announced the return of cards at last year’s party conference. We revealed Richard Holden would launch an online vote on a new design.
Today, Holden has announced the return of said cards via a video on Twitter – suggesting that the desire for a return on membership cards is the issue, above all, uniting members – and announcing the four designs from which members can choose. The link is here.
They have 72 hours in which to vote so that the cards can be in place for those members either renewing their membership or joining from the start of January. The four designs are below. Like Holden, I already have a favourite, but I will leave it up to readers to pick their own.
